Pistonly ("the app", "we", "us") is an OBD‑II diagnostic assistant for cars and motorcycles. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. The short version: the app has no account, stores your data on your device, and never sends your VIN to our servers.
Developer / data controller: Aliaksei Yelin. Contact: [email protected].
Pistonly has no sign‑up and no login. We do not ask for your name, email, phone number or any social profile, and we do not create a user account for you.
Everything you enter stays on your device (and in your own iCloud device backup, if you have one enabled). This includes:
We have no server copy of this data. Deleting the app removes it. Individual records can also be deleted inside the app.
When you ask for an AI diagnosis, the app sends only the following, over an encrypted HTTPS connection, to our diagnostic service (a Firebase Cloud Function that forwards the request to our AI provider, Perplexity AI):
Your VIN is not included — it is removed before the request is sent. The request is processed to generate your result and is not used to build a profile of you and is not linked to your identity (there is no identity to link it to).
To provide the free monthly allowance (3 AI diagnoses per month), the app sends a random, anonymous installation identifier generated on your device. It is not your Apple ID, name or email and cannot identify you personally.
